Happy Veteran's Day!

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave. ~Elmer Davis

Thank you to all who serve and have served our country. Thank you to you and to your families for the sacrifices that you have made and continue to make so that my family can live safe and free.

It's official!  I now have a Twitter and Facebook page!  They are currently under revision so please be patient while they are under development.  Unfortunately there will not be a My space page.  I am probably too tired to work on it right now, that's why I'm having so much difficulty getting it set up.  What do they say?  Two out of three aint bad, right?

Twitter? Facebook? My Space?

This is from a recent model shoot.  Special thank you to Lindsay who was incredible to work with.  I love black and white images that show lighting and form artistically.  I've already raised an eyebrow or two with this shot...this is a family rated blog after all but I really like this,  and it is MY blog.

It looks like all of the rules that I have laid out for myself are quickly falling by the wayside!  First I vowed that I would never text...and look at me now!  I will text the boys to have them do quick errands for me.  They text me to see what is for dinner...and then to say they won't be home...for dinner...

Now I am seriously considering Twitter, Facebook and My Space as marketing tools.  I don't kid myself to think that my life is so interesting that someone will want to know what I am doing 24/7 but it is a way to get my name and photos out there.  I'm still in the research phase, but when I make a decision you will be the first to know!

In the meantime, we're all well and hanging in there.  The guys have one more elk hunt scheduled and then I think we'll be done for the year.  Now if I can just get through football season so I can have the TV back again.  :)

Hunting Camp

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted.  Things have been really, really crazy!

We just returned from a week at Summer Lake.  The guys went hunting, I stayed in camp and got caught up on reading.  I had coyotes behind camp one morning yipping and yapping.  It was pretty eerie and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

We camp in a huge meadow set way back from the main road.  It is ringed with Aspen trees and Ponderosa Pine.  At one end of the meadow is a wooden corral that protects a small spring that feeds into a water trough for the free range cattle that meander through.  I had a small herd of eight come through one evening.  I always thought that cows were noisy but these guys proved to be rather stealthy having sneaked in while I was reading.  After we eyeballed each other for a bit and they mooed while I shooed they finally wandered off along a cow trail that followed along the edge of camp.

Meadow & Corral

The aspen trees started out green but quickly changed to golden yellow and striking orange during the time we were there.  The sound of the wind rushing through makes them sound as if they are waterfalls.   Many of the Aspen's were carved with the names and dates of previous camp occupants.  I've heard that the Basque sheep herders from centuries past used to carve their names into the trees to let others know they had been there.  Of course I can't vouch for the authenticity of the dates on these trees but some were from the early 1900's.  I'll get pictures next year when we go back.

I have always said that I will not text, that my cell phone does everything that I need it to do.  Guess who finally broke down and has to eat her words?  I did it, I bought a smart phone and I have been texting!

I decided that a smart phone was a good idea because I could carry my portfolio around with me electronically.  I can also access my website and other sites to use as a marketing tool and for inspiration.  And texting?  It is so much easier to get a hold of the boys to find out where they are, are they going to be home for dinner?  I'm really proud of myself for moving into the next century!

I will have Y posted in the A-Z gallery soon so please check back soon!  Thank you to all of you who read regularly and who keep providing feedback.  I do appreciate your comments and suggestions!

A little Feng Shui  ~  to calm the soul.

“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.” --William Shakespeare

Summer is winding down now; the air is crisp and clear in the mornings. The leaves are starting to change colors and are beginning to fall from the trees. Distant sounds of football games echo along the evening breeze while I long for my sweater and the comforts of homemade soups and stews.  Fall is my most favorite season of the year!

What a busy time of year this is! Preparations are under way for hunting season, football games are in full swing now so I won't get to watch the programs I want to until sometime in March.  All of the end of summer chores still need to be done on these ever shortening weekends.  I went through my last high school registration this year.  While I was waiting impatiently, Tony told me that I should be savoring the experience because it was my last one.  That made me feel sad...and old.

Now it’s time to focus on Senior pictures and start planning Christmas photos. Mention that you read this and I will give you a "friends and family" discount on your senior pics!

Until next time…

Here is shot of my new Studio!  Tony is helping me with my lighting.  He has also been acting as my equipment manager lately.  It's always nice to have an extra set of arms to lug around camera gear!

It is definitely fall now.  School registration, back to school sales, football and the most tell tale sign of all, my furnace kicked in after being dormant since April.  The boys are starting to gear up for hunting season.  I love the sound of distant gun firing.

I'm still working on X through Z so be patient while I try to find shots for these.  I did take a photo field trip up to Kings Valley so I hope to post some landscapes soon.

More soon!

It rained today!

I was surprised to hear the rain this morning, even more surprised that I had to find my umbrella.  I did find it, covered in dog hair, stuffed into the door cubby in my car.

Let's face it, for all intents and purposes, summer is over.  September 1st rings in Fall and my most favorite season of the year.  I can nearly feel the crispness in the air and smell the faint tinge of wood smoke.

I've been thinking about Christmas photos and how there is a gas fireplace at the studio.  I'm thinking that the fireplace will make for a really awesome backdrop for Christmas photos...now if I can just persuade the boys to clear their calenders for me so we can get them done early instead of waiting until the week before Christmas.

Big heavy sigh, the weatherman is calling for more summer like weather....

more soon!
